Creating a Business Blog Plan
Knowing the direction of your business blog is just as important as writing and promoting it.
Creating a blogging plan will help you keep your focus, know where you are going and ensure all your content meshes with your goals. Here are 7 tips that will help you create a winning blogging plan for your business.
Identify your goals. Knowing where you are going with your business blog will you maintain a direct focus. Do you want to build an audience, create trust, increase sales? Knowing your goal without a doubt will ensure you never lose focus of your goals. It will also help you determine no only your short term blogging strategy, but your long term vision.
Name your audience. If you know who you are targeting as reader, you will have a better idea of what type of content you need to write. Who is your target audience? What type of content will you create for them?
Pick a theme. If you’re blog is new, or even if it’s not and just needs a makeover, really think about what you want your blog to look like. What do you want your theme to convey to your visitors? What will your menu say? What will go in your sidebar? Check out other blogs both in and out of your industry to get some ideas. Make a list of things you like and dislike about the blogs to give you inspiration for what you want on your own blog.
Figure out the right content. You know you need to create great content. But you can’t create just any type of content. Your content has to match your audience. It has to be information your audience is truly interested in and wants to learn about.
Have an editorial calendar. An editorial calendar will literally show you where your blog is going. It will map out your content. Some of your content should educate and inspire. Some should demonstrate your expertise. Some (not a lot!) should effectively promote your business. Mix these types of content up for the best results.
Have a sign-up incentive. Online marketers always say, the money is in the list. And they’re right. With an email list, you can continually update readers of your blog posts, your newest product, sales you have going on, just about anything you want. The best way to get people to sign up for your email is to offer a killer free incentive. It doesn’t have to be long or intricate. It just has to be useful. It can be a printable like a checklist, or a coupon code to use later on a product.
Promote your blog. Lastly, make sure you promote your blog. Share it on your social media channels. Include sharing buttons on your blog so your readers can help share it too.
Business blogs needs just as much direction as any other site out there. By creating a blogging plan, you will keep your blog on track to get more traffic and more readers.
