Be a Twitter Rock Star

Twitter. This micro-message, real-time marketing platform is great for businesses. It allows you to connect, learn, teach and market, all in the same place.

Many businesses, both big and small, use Twitter. Here are 6 ways for your business to start rocking this social media platform.

#1 Have a voice

Whether you designate one person to do your tweeting, or there is more than one person who manages your account, your tweets should come from one voice. Your voice can be serious or more on the humorous side, but it should stay consistent.

Also, before a tweet goes out, consider these factors:

  • Is it relevant to my business and my followers?
  • Does it fall in line with our values?
  • Does it inspire, teach or create value?

Twitter#2 Build connections

Social media is all about making connections, and using Twitter for business is no exception. Follow other influencers in your industry, tweet and retweet, and comment. Respond to any mentions and shares you get. Don’t forget to use first names, this really shows people that you are genuine – and not a robot.

You may also want to take part in Twitter chats to broaden your reach, meet people and get new followers.

#3 Give compliments

If you like something someone does, or see something great about them, tag them and let them know. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture. Simply acknowledging someone takes mere seconds but can go a long way when making connections online.

#4 Say thank you

If someone retweets you or shares your blog posts, send them a thank you. Check your mentions tab and take the time to respond to people who have taken the time to do something for you. Tag people so they know you are thanking them. You can also thank you’re new followers. Or even better, start following them back.

Twitter#5 Create lists

Sort the people you follow into lists. Why would you want to do this? For one thing, these people will know you added them to a list. Name your list right, and it’s pretty complimentary. Another reason for using lists is that it allows you to organize people for your own purposes.

Visit your profile picture, and click on the link that says Lists. You should see a button on the right-hand side that says Create new list. Be sure to give your list name that compliments its members. Use terms like awesome, savvy, innovators, leaders.

#6 Share awesome content

Don’t forget to spend some of your time sharing, not only your own great content, but the content of others. You will be amazed at the connections you can build simply by re-tweeting or helping someone out by sharing their stuff.

Twitter is such a fast-moving platform, but is also great for building connections that will help boost your business. Use these 6 tips to help you become a Twitter rock star!
